TRAVELING AND MENTAL HEALTH

Mental health is very in demand topic right now as the pandemic still exists. Most of us are looking for a reason to get out in this chaos situation and looking for something that may help us feel better and be motivated to make new plans as we continue our daily life.

Some people cannot really afford to travel, have a trip or make plans because the most important things to do today is to put food on the table.

For me, traveling does not only mean you need to book a trip abroad or to other places spending a lot of money with costly plane tickets, hotels and restaurants.

“Money never made a man happy yet, nor will it. The more a man has,the more he wants. Instead of filling vacuum, it makes me”. –Benjamin Franklin

I’ve been stuck here in the province of Negros Oriental, Philippines for almost a year now due to COVID19 so I just decided to stay here until the situation eases. As of now I am just enjoying the captivating rural setting.

Miles away from home and unexpected changes in life often starts with shock feelings especially if it is unplanned. Career change, feeling disoriented, loneliness, insufficient funds, limited movement, missing family/friends and many more.

This changes in life have a big impact on my mental health. Negative thoughts, overthinking and I don’t know how to start and refuel my soul. A lot of things continuously running in my mind – hot tempered, easily irritated and it really affects my mood.

Despite of all the negative things happening around us continue to make a difference. I realized that life is short and anything can happen in some unexpected ways. So this is it.

Instead of stressing life, continue to make a big difference wherever you are. Enjoy life and continue to pursue whatever your dreams and goals. It may change the route but you can still continue life no matter what it is. Instead of ruining days make other plans and choices to reach those goals.

Travelling may sound expensive but you do not need to be rich to travel. You don’t need to book an expensive flight and go abroad to travel. You can have a trip and visit places nearby. We all know that most of us now are encountering difficulties in life but we should not have focused to it. Safeguarding our mental health, making ourselves busy –and not allowing negative thoughts that is the most important thing we should do because if we are mentally struggling, everything follows.

Travelling and exploring new places, meeting your love ones or other people (family, friends, relatives) can help us heal our brokenness and sickness in our bodies. These toxins in our system like anger, worry, fear, depression, low self-esteem, loneliness, toxic eating habits, toxic surroundings, (etcetera) have a big impact to your health.

Take vacations and have a break from a toxic and hustle environment. Explore amazing places nearby your place.

Hiking and walking. A form of traveling to exercise our physical fitness that don’t need a single penny. It is economical and convenient that don’t require anything. You can walk and hike with friends/family as far as you can and do whatever you want (take only memories, leave only footprints). It is very beneficial activities combining physical exercise and enjoyment as you experience the beauty of the outdoor.

We need to be more positive by reflecting on nature (most economical and beneficial). Sightseeing, hiking and walking brings closer to our spirit, relieve all the pain we feel, increases pleasant feelings and reduces anger, fear and stress.

Spending time alone outdoors. Be kind to spend time to yourself because it would be your best friend and best buddy ever. Yes, you can spend time alone outdoors. Some people can’t go out without companions or buddy. In this modern situation you must learn to take a few moments to consider yourself because this is the time to think what’s not working for you, what do you want to do more for your improvement. Spending outdoors will help you to stretch your mind by meditation which can be a lot of benefits spiritually, physically, mentally and emotionally (I know it’s not easy) and thinking the things you haven’t done that you wanted to start. Being alone makes you explore new subjects to broaden your understanding about your purpose as an individual and what exactly are the things to be changed in order to have a unique and meaningful quality living.

Mountain climbing gives you good experience and enjoy the beauty of the outdoor. Connect with nature. Meditate. Experience new things.

According to Dr. Qing Li author of the Forest Bathing. The sounds of the forest, the scent of the tress, the sunlight playing through the leaves, the fresh, clean air-these things give us a sense of comfort. They ease our stress and worry, helps us to relax and to think more clearly. Being with nature can restore our mood, give us back our energy and vitality, refresh and rejuvenate us.

Connecting with nature or getting outdoors is one of the best way to detox your mind. Changing your surroundings and feeding your mind with positive thoughts makes you more powerful to improve your mental health. Focusing to enhance positive thoughts everyday can control negative emotions that trigger you to think a lot of negativity and leads to unhealthy living.

“Nobody can go back and start a new beginning, but anyone can start today and make a new ending”. – Maria Robinson

The beach. Swimming. Vitamin Sea. The beach is one of the best way to alleviate stress. The smell of the sea breeze and the splash of the waves on the seashore simply changes our mood, gives you the feeling of refreshment/strength under too much pressure and stress. Swimming – one of the best exercise for your brain, physically and it is good to our hormones which gives a good/natural feeling which leads to happiness/wellbeing and it reduces anxiety/depression. Even if you don’t suffer from mental health, visiting the ocean(beach) can provide a long list of benefits. A good dose of vitamin sea and ocean exposure can boost your immune system function. It elevates stress and mental health conditions through the healing power of the sea water.

Sports. Bicycle ride. You have to start riding on the bicycle. Bicycle ride is a form of sports and aerobic exercise. It helps to improve mental health and positivity, boosts memory and reasoning. Bicycle riding can be used by any age – children, adult or no matter your age. It can be used for trips, pleasure, adventure, commuting, and exercise.

Our happiness can be found anywhere despite whatever circumstances we are in. God designed our minds to work best – in today’s world there is so much clutter going through our minds.

Regardless of what travelling means to you or what type of travelers you fall into as long as it helps you to re-invent, develop, improve, helping you to feel calm, releases and lessen your stress in your daily routine, relaxes and heal your mind, promotes happiness, improving your brain function, boosting your mental health, improving your general outlook in life and can be able to make beautiful stories to continue and satisfy your purpose from these never ending and fast moving life.

DO NOT DARE NOT TO DARE

2021Year of the Ox, according to the Chinese Lunar New Year Day it is started from February 12th 2021 and lasting until January 31, 2022.

Let us all leave behind the sad memories, hopeful moments and chaos experiences of 2020.

The world has been changing and greatly challenging 2020 for many of us which is for me it is the year of sadness, depression, anxiety, unhopeful future due to the effect of corona virus pandemic and the year that we lost. As we look back we have a lot of plans that didn’t happen due to this epidemic (lockdown, staying at home, can’t go out, loss jobs, income, and enormous loss of human lives – family members was sick and lost due to COVID19 virus, friends, neighbors and others).

The year has been changed and can live the “new normal” way but still we don’t have the assurance that this 2021 will give us good results of good life and good future. It is up to us to take actions to change for the better. Everything is all depends in our hands. We need to do something to make our life productive and something that will change us for the better (change starts within ourselves). Build enough courage to something that we will benefit for the future. Move forward and don’t afraid to face all the consequences that we will encounter in the rough roads in life.

What we think determines what happens to us so if we want to change our lives, we need to stretch our minds. – Wayne Dyer

Life must go on and be brave. If you really want change, believe in your own self that you can do something more than what you did before. If it didn’t work, then look for other options. Sometimes you feel stuck but it doesn’t mean that it is the end. You are not the only one feel this way. You are not alone. It is never too late for a new beginning you just need to dare yourself to do something which requires a lot of courage to continue moving despite of obstacles along the way. Do not look back. Use those bad experiences you had in the past that will help you to be more creative and will lead to a new directions and path for a good future.

The good lessons taught by 2020 will help us to push harder for a fresh start. Learn to value small things. Let go of negative beliefs, attitudes and habits that will make you weak and give disappointments to pursue your dreams/goals.

The most important thing is to guard our mental and physical health. We cannot do the things we want to do if we are mentally sick and physically weak. As the saying goes health is wealth. Our emotions and body’s reactions are triggered by our thoughts.

Life is hard but we need to take good care our most precious wealth – our mental health which follows our physical health because our mentality defines our physical circumstances. Convert our negative thoughts and self – image into positive ones if we want to have a successful life and lived a happily ever after (haha! Positive vibes only).

Study shows that we have a neural pathway in our brain which transmit information and forms thoughts negatively/positively. Different people have different approach to their environment. Repeated thoughts over and over again will definitely become true. Our thoughts are just like a magnet. If we always think of problems and obstacles, then worry a lot the result will be negative. Stop wasting time doing things that don’t benefit you.

“Our minds become magnetized with the dominating thoughts we hold in our minds and these magnets attract to us the forces, the people, the circumstances of life which harmonize with the nature of our dominating thoughts

– Napoleon Hill

In order to guard our mental health, we need to design our thoughts to survive in this cruel world not only in this pandemic time but to the ups and downs in life and environmental collapse. Change our thoughts and life would start to change.

“Your mind is like a magnet …If you think of Blessings, you attract Blessings and if you think of problems, you attract problems. Always cultivate good thoughts and always remain positive and optimistic.” – Unknown

All of us are always been affected and defeated by our everyday problems and difficulties in life. We should not permit those obstacles to control our mind because this will lead us to a negative thought, disappointments and doubts. In order to become a person of value and cultivate positive environment, we need to have personal development and improvement on outlook in life. Always think positive and believe in our self that we can do all things and have the abilities to create something new for the better. Make our life excited each and every moment. Don’t mind what will others say and think, at the end of the day our happiness inside matters.

If we feel shattered, just breath, refocus and pray. Life is hard sometimes and things crashing down – seem we can’t pick ourselves up. We feel hopeless and helpless. We just need to slowdown and gasp some fresh air to breath. Change our environment and make some life changing adjustments in order to get yourself back – try again to start a new track. Refocus on the life that we want to achieve. Life is scary and new beginnings can be confusing but as we move forward we can discover new things that will help us to refocus on that new path and it will guide us along the way. Don’t give up and forget what is gone, learn to appreciate what is still remain and look forward to what is coming next on achieving what you desire. Pray humbly to God daily and he will give a positive and fresh insights on our daily activities and it is the greatest power in solving our personal problems. Believe. Affirm.

Luke 17:21 “The kingdom of God is within you”.

Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me” .

Roman’s 8:31 “If God be for us, who can be against us? “.

2011 photo @ Norwich, United Kingdom

In every ups and downs in life we can choose to react and respond on the choices we made – it can be good or bad. If choices won’t work out, then we can always try again. Be braver to take some risks. Just move forward and not backward. Remember that we don’t need to stand out in a crowd, what matters most is value our self and enjoy every second of our life. It’s not all about money, wealth, fame and power can define the amount of every individuals happiness.

According to your faith be it unto you.-Mathew 9:29

According to the Father of Positive Thinking Normal Vincent Peale, the secret of a better and more successful life is to cast out those old, dead, unhealthy thoughts. Substitute for them new, vital, dynamic faith thoughts. You can depend upon it- an inflow of new thought will remake you and your life.

So,do not dare not to dare.

Dare to be there!

Speed of Life

I just finished watching a movie from the  novel “Life at These Speeds” by Jeremy Jackson. I was inspired to write something about it during this pandemic COVID19 because it really amazed me on how this high school athlete conquer his disastrous/traumatic experience and on how he overcome the dramatic loss in his life……

Traumatic experiences are like scars that causes difficulties in life but sometimes it leads to a new beginning.

I really can’t imagine life during this Corana Virus pandemic. Still waiting for the vaccines to come out so everyone will move forward in life in a normal way.(I know vaccines are not really the cure on these COVID19 Virus).

I know that life now during these Covid19 is not much related on the movie but I was just motivated to write about my experiences during this pandemic.

It is so hard in every individual to adjust in this kind of life (in this new normal thing). Most of us are stuck, no income and still confused on how to start all over again. For me, it is really a stressful and distressing experience I ever had in my entire life. I lost everything I had during this hard time. Business have been closed and source of income here in my place right now is so hard.

Because of the losses we experienced, speed of life now becomes slow due to C19 and here’s another UK’s new COVID 19 strain, most of us are struggling with life especially to those individual who had a hard time to cope with these kind of situation makes us depressed and hopeful.

Currently living in a rural area here in Philippines and it really needs a lot of adjustments (been living here almost 8 months already). Just missing the fast paced of life in the city. Moving to the province is really unexpected.

Some people say that simple living is better…… Yes, I want to live in a simple life but I just realized that simple living is not really simple. Just like cutting back some regularly and a hectic lifestyle like reducing consumption, simple diet like buying local products, growing your own food and starting being more self-sufficient, focusing on what is available around and doing some stuff that you really don’t like to do just like cooking on woods (need to cut woods or get some twigs and do some fire — it is so hard because I’m not good on putting fire on it ha-ha! It’s a good experience though –  good to be a girl scout in my elementary days). Another thing is when you want to take a bath, you need to do the old ways. No shower. You take a bucket (timba/balde in tagalog) and put water on it, use a dipper or pitcher (tabo in tagalog) to have a bath.

Living in the city always make me active and I don’t even have enough sleep. I always make myself busy but as a reward, I give myself a treat now and then. I always move and travel whenever I can to overwhelm my feeling even in the busiest days.

Now, living in the province is okay avoiding too much traffic and very noisy city but sometimes I really missed my pre-pandemic life in the city. I’m making myself busy here but it’s not easy to do the things that you never did before. As of now I’m slowly accepting the fact that we don’t always get what we want in life.

Days, weeks and months passed, slow paced of life in the province makes me appreciate simple living. Having an aha moment in these place makes me learn a lot of new things as I moved forward and experienced life changes. As I narrate earlier, simple life is not really simple. You have to give efforts too. It is not just as simple as that.

From day to day living, you still have a choice to push on or just make yourself stuck. It is still your decision to do what is good and important. Experiences every day is a choice to live because we have a lot of options on this planet. We are stuck sometimes on one path but life speeds will lead us to new beginning. Struggles and hard times is unavoidable but we still have choices to continue or regret in life.

I learned that life should be balance. We just need to go with the tempo of our existence. The slow paced of environment makes us realized that sometimes it needs to slow down and appreciate the little things around us and it will lead us to see a bigger picture – the wonderful ways on how to live in this world (wonderful world).

We as humans are totally different. We just need to be patient to ourselves. As the saying says “Nothing in nature blooms year round”. It’s ok to rest. Many of us have been looking for ways on how to feel good/better, to have a good source of income and to sustain our needs/wants but during this pandemic, it is really hard for some of us to maintain what we begin. We are searching for something that makes us productive and to support ourselves/ family and to live the way we want to be. We can still reach that planned goals but this is the time to pause for a while.Just remind ourselves that it’s not the endpoint. It is just a new beginning for a new journey that we never planned in  life (new, better and beautiful life).

Always be thankful and grateful for all the things that you are experiencing now because it helps you to push harder in order to get what you want to achieve. Embrace every situation, you can be slow today but who knows tomorrow will be greater and brighter. Take it easy. Don’t be too fast try to make it slowly. Time is free so live one day at a time because unplanned plans will teach us to cherish every moment and memories to enjoy in this slow paced of life.Relax. Once we lost  it we can never get it back so grab this opportunity to make life more meaningful.

Sometimes, even our best-laid plans don’t work out the way we intended. But if one plan fails, don’t lose hope–there is always another way to reach a solution. Don’t give up! – EntrepreneurMindset

Speed of life can be slow, fast or whatever pace of life it is, never be discourage just continually make progress. Ralph Waldo Emerson said “Adopt the pace of nature: her secret is patience.”

Fast and slow do more than just describe a rate of change. They are shorthand for ways of being, or philosophies of life. Fast is busy, controlling, aggressive, hurried, analytical, stressed, superficial, impatient, active, quantity-over-quality. Slow is the opposite:  calm, careful, receptive, still, intuitive, unhurried, patient, reflective, quality-over-quantity. It is about making real and meaningful connections – with people, culture, work, food, everything. The paradox is that slow does not always mean slow…It is also possible to do things quickly while maintaining a Slow frame of mind. – Carl Honoré

Things To Do When You Feel Stuck in Life

Have you ever been to a place and never expect to be stuck due to circumstances and living with uncertainties?

What would you do if things happened and it’s not meant to your plans?

Most of us this year 2020 is the most challenging year. All jobs have been stoped, shops are closed, we can’t travel, too much restrictions and most of us can’t do what we want to do(staying at home).

I just learned that this year was the time to realized that life was not meant to be in one place.

Things happened unexpectedly. From living in different places – I learned that life is too short and unpredictable, instead of making myself depressed I try to broaden my horizons and let change happen without forcing myself to react on what’s happening around.

CHANGE YOUR MINDSET.

Changed the mentality that the place you are now are set to you for the rest of your life. This is the time to explore new things, new places, learn to embrace new experiences and enjoy the new incredible journey.

Crazy things happen in unexpected way but we can change it in a way we wanted it to be. Learn to adopt and manage the things that makes us sick and turn into a memorable one.

Feeling stuck in life? Don’t you worry you’re not alone. Most of us now have the same feelings and it is a common problem now a days – globally we are in trying times. We get frustrated and depressed, it seems that we can’t move forward and the things we planned did not happen.

Feeling stuck means need to do something better – new things gonna happen soon and there are some things that is not meant for us. Our past should be changed into new ones because the routine/plans are not working anymore.

Things happening around us are temporary and we have to change our outlook in life in order to proceed for a new beginning.

As we live day by day, small things that we did will become big again someday. So start it now, make list of ways on how to start all over again that can help you start a new beginning in order to get your goal.

You don’t need to be in a hurry. Slow down, step forward and figure out what you need to do to be unstucked.

NEVER STOP CHASING YOUR DREAMS.

Dare to make yourself more productive and that uncertainty feeling should not stop us from making a change. Never ever stop chasing your dreams.

Even we are not sure what exactly the result is, never stop moving until you get there and see what you really want and how to get it.

So start acting. Sitting and waiting for things will not change anything at all. Start to do small things and the big result will be there soon even though how long you will wait at least you’ve started something new for yourself.

ALWAYS THINK POSITIVE.

Always think positive and pray to God to guide you every day that this life will be better again soon. Avoid negative energy/thoughts that makes you sick. Eliminate toxic people who always contribute negativity in your daily activities. Surround yourself with positivity and get rid of the negative ones. Get a bigger picture of your results.

Follow your heart but always be kind. Set boundaries and if people disrespect you just move away and step back.

All of us have problems and it is not magic to disappear when thinking positive vibes and positive mind but it helps us to manage our own problems in a positive approach to our hardships in a productive way. Always think positive so that life will give back positive results.

RELAX AND STOP OVERTHINKING.

Just relax. Spend time with yourself and stop overthinking. We can’t control every situations and circumstances but the life we wanted is within our control.

Just focus on good things. In this trying times we have a lot of challenging situations which is already part of our daily life. But instead of focusing in this negative settings, try to convert it into enjoyable and fun way. For example, you really feel uncomfortable with your housemates for some personal reasons then don’t just seat and keep on punishing yourself in thinking “what ifs” and “if only”, instead walk away and make yourself busy. Read books. Write poems/blog. Talk to your love ones through phone calls or have a walk  and get some fresh air – deeply breath, tell yourself that everything will be fine soon.

LEARN TO LOVE YOURSELF.

This is the darkest feeling in my whole life because I felt that I am so unproductive for almost 6 months. I don’t know what to do and how to start all over again. I never thought that life was so cruel to me this year. But, I realized that life has taught me a lot. No income but still surviving. Still have foods to eat. No sickness and still breathing and kicking. Life isn’t all about money, working and paying bills every month. Life is all about enjoying it to the fullest and let life/things be. We need to rest and feel the importance of time for yourself. Give time to yourself. Be kind to yourself. Learn to love yourself first because it is the greatest love of all.

In loving yourself, you need to trust and know how to take good care of your being. Listen to your heart and do what you have to do. Trusting your own instinct will lead you to push more and never doubt on your ability.

Respect, Love, and Value yourself. Always remember to be good to yourself by taking care of yourself. Make yourself a priority and know that it’s okay. Don’t feel guilty for loving yourself, first! You’re just as important as anybody else.” – Stephanie Lahart

SELF-TALK.

Self-talk is the act or practice of talking to oneself, either aloud or silently and mentally positive.

In my experience, talking to yourself in front of the mirror is a positive way of building self- confidence. Some people say – talking to yourself in front of the mirror is a sign that you are crazy. Others say that it’s a sign of schizophrenia (Schizophrenia appear to those people who talk to themselves as they respond to the voices. Hallucinations.)

When I was in high school and college, every time we have quizzes and exams – I always review (talking to my own self especially on Q & A ) my notes speaking out loud. It helps me to remember and absorb information quickly. When speaking out loud I felt that all my senses are working and active.

It is weird talking alone to yourself but for me it is my way of boosting my energy to get going especially if I felt lazy to start my day. For example,       after going out from my bedroom I tried talking to myself in front of my mirror. Giving a smile and greet “Good morning Beautiful, this day will be a great day!” It builds me more confidence and determination to pursue my dreams and goals. In this trying times it helps me to push more and fight my battles and to proceed to my next step. It helps me to overcome doubtful and unsure decisions in life, control my negative emotions and helps me to build healthy mindset.

According to the healthline.com by Timothy J. Legg written by Kimberly Holland, self-talk is your internal dialogue. Its influenced by your subconscious mind and it reveals your thoughts, beliefs, questions and ideas.

Self-talk can be both negative and positive. It can be encouraging and distressing. Your self-talk depends on your personality. If you’re an optimist, your self-talk maybe more hopeful and positive. The opposite is generally true if you tend to be a pessimist. Positive thinking and optimism can be effective stress management tools. Having a positive outlook on life can provide you with some health benefits. If you have a too negative self-talk then you want to emphasize positive self -talk you can learn to shift that inner dialogue. It can help you to be more positive person and it may improve your health. Self- talk can enhance your performance and general well-being. Self -talk increased vitality, greater life satisfaction, improved immune function, reduced pain, better physical well-being, reduced risk for death, less stress and distress.

MOTIVATE YOURSELF.

Lack of motivation is one of the symptoms of depression. Don’t allow yourself to be trap in this situation. We have some issues in life or experiences that sometimes affects our mood and confidence. We need to help ourselves to improve our own situation. For example, if you have done small things that makes you feel good celebrate that victories. Always think positive and establish routines that make you feel motivated. Self-motivation is the best outfit we can have to face all the trials in life.

In my experience negative situation makes me more motivated. It helps me to do more and exert extra effort to get what I want in life. A lot of failures happened in my existence. I felt depressed but instead of punishing myself, it helps me to do something better and sustain for a career move to pursue my dreams/goals.

It is very hard to control your emotions especially if nobody is supporting you emotionally and no one was there to comfort you when you need it the most. In every emotion, behavior and decision we do is rooted in our minds. So it is up to us to do something for our self to be motivated.

Don’t be afraid of change, because it is leading you to a new beginning.

The Bao-Bao Peak of Negros Oriental

One day at a time. One simple beautiful stay in Tayawan Negros Oriental.

As I stay longer in this place, there’s plenty of experiences to enjoy that don’t have to cost a single centavo. Walk around, feel the place and if you have the courage and want to gain pain then hike at your own risk at Bao-Bao Peak.

Bao-Bao Peak.

As COVID19 still exist, there’s a top destination that circulates on social media about this place ( Bao-Bao Peak) which intrigued me located at Sitio Mambunot, Barangay Tayawan, Bayawan Negros Oriental (lucky me, it is near to where I live – can’t be spending a single centavo haha). According to those who experience the place it can be traveled around more or less 1 hour from Bayawan City (30-45minutes hike to the peak).

Currently residing at Barangay Tayawan, we had a long walked and hike from Purok 4 to Sitio Mambunot with my buddies.

We woke up early (3:30am) and we prepared ourselves to get ready for a trek. We are not familiar about this place. No guide. We are just excited to conquer this place haha! We started walking the rough roads of Tayawan with no lights at all. It’s about more or less one hour we reached the foot of the Bao-Bao Peak, we are not familiar which way to take going up….It’s really our lucky day we’ve seen a house and ask the owner the right way going up (as expected people in the province woke up early).

We just noticed that a lot of motorcycles parked in front of that house. According to the locals that we encountered on the way there’s a lot of people already going up earlier than us (we just decided to take other path rather than following the trail to avoid crowd at the peak).

Bao-Bao Peak is not yet purely developed destination and as I said earlier in my post, hike at your own risk because you have to take good care of your own self while hiking and when you reach the top of the peak, no one will remind you to be careful. You will be responsible for your own self as a tourist, visitor or as a hiker.

As the sun started to rise, we start running up even though we’re already catching our breath just to see and witness the sunrise. We didn’t follow the path of that peak. Instead, we take alternative route(avoiding the crowd at the peak). We didn’t follow the path we make our own trail haha! We take up the highest point, it has a small tower, some animals like dogs(barking on us), carabaos and cows eating grasses (we are on the other side of the peak). There’s a small house/camp too.

Wow! I am speechless when I reached the top! Breathtaking. Peaceful. The calmness of the environment is amazing. After a long walked, I felt I was on top of the world….

When reaching the top, I felt like I was on cloud nine. That experience, relaxing and spectacular view. You can feel and gaze up the sea of clouds.

It is advisable to visit the peak at around 4am-5:30am to see/catch the sea of clouds and witness the beautiful sunrise.

Looking forward to explore and discover more the hidden treasures of Negros Oriental.

P. S. Please don’t leave any kind of trash to protect our mother nature.Just leave your footprints and take only memories.

Tayawan Negros Oriental

You don’t have to be rich to travel well (Eugene Fodor), just be wise! Traveling is not always money, sometimes it mostly need to appreciate little things that we have around us.

You don’t need to go miles away from where you are to travel. COVID19 is still around the corner and you don’t want to be infected by this virus. Try to walk around near you. Maybe you haven’t discovered yet some places around. Walk. Jog. Feel and try to appreciate your own place and you will be able to see the beauty and hidden treasures that you haven’t seen yet.

In the middle of the rubber tree plantation.

Let’s just appreciate a few of the best and simplest things you can experience in Tayawan Negros Oriental.

Maybe it is because I am from Baguio, a highly urbanized city.

Tayawan is a barangay in the city of Bayawan province of Negros Oriental. It is situated at approximately 9.5095,122.7420 in the island of Negros. Elevation at these coordinates is estimated at 305.3 meters or 1,001.6 feet above sea level. Tayawan shares common border with the other barangays just like San Miguel, Minaba, Narra, Kalumboyan and more.

It is more or less 1 hour from Bayawan and 62 miles away from Dumaguete City (capital city of Negros Oriental).

The main revenues of Tayawan come from land farming, livestock production, buy and selling (selling dry goods, livestock, vegetables, ready to wear garments and others).

Tayawan is a rural area with huge and wide sugar cane plantations around the corner. In this area you will see the beautiful sunset. You can enjoy the peaceful and calm environment with the greenery sugar cane, walking with the wind while touching/feeling the rough leaves of this sugar cane. Have a good walk, then jog. Take some photos for souvenirs and as a remembrance with crazy moments and memories.

Sugar cane plantation.

On the other side of this place, we enjoyed walking with the beautiful scenery and discovered a huge stone on our way. It is really huge. We try to climbed and reached the top (wow overview of the whole field with the beautiful sunset) had a selfie and take some photo with the gorgeous background of clouds and the never ending plantations.

Life is beautiful.
Great view at the top of the huge stone.

Aside from these, Tayawan also has a rubber tree plantation. (I am not sure how many hectares of rubber trees grown in this place) I don’t have enough knowledge about this rubber tree. Out of curiosity, it catches my interest when we visited the area because of those cups like with milky thing on it so I ask what this rubber tree all about and how they make it in farming. This crop is used in reforestation initiatives. The crop extract is called the latex which flows from the back of the tress and served as income source. The income of this farming is high. Rubber farming generates year round. These rubber tree also generates quality lumber and can be used in furniture industry, help reduce ground temperature and helps mitigate climate change.

Latex, the crop extract from rubber tree.
Rubber Tree Plantation

According to the article from Rainforest Alliance, rubber tree was first discovered by the ancient Olmec, Maya, and Aztec. The latex sap from rubber tree was once used to make rubber balls, to waterproof clothes and even to form homemade shoes. The rubber tree will grow to heights of 100-130 feet and can live up to 100 years. Its most famous feature is the milky white sap known as latex which flows freely from the tree when a silver of bark is removed. A rubber tree is also referred to as rubber wood can be tapped for latex once it reaches approximately six years of age….

As I stay longer in this place, there’s plenty of experiences to enjoy that don’t have to cost a single centavo. Walk around and feel the place.

One day at a time. One simple beautiful stay in Tayawan Negros Oriental. Looking forward to explore and discover more.

Miles Away from Home

There’s nothing like staying at home for real comfort. –Jane Austen

Staying at home makes us feel comfortable and feel relaxed especially with foggy/chilly weather (missing Home-Baguio City). Sipping your hot coffee or hot chocolate in the afternoon while staring at the windows with hard rain dropping around.

A cup of hot chocolate while watching rain drops falling on the ground.

These moments make you reminisce the past. The good and the bad.

Feeling the cold weather, thinking all the stuff you haven’t done in your life. The regrets, the “what if’s” and what you could have been “if only”.

Foggy afternoon.

Unexpected life changes misses your past moments and memories with family, friends, your daily routine/jobs, activities and all the crazy things you had done in the past. Mistakes that was not been corrected. Scars that was not been erased and the wounds that was not healed (drama hu-hu!).

Miles away from home makes you realized how family gives you the real comfort. In sickness and in health they are always around to give you support.

The storm comes and you’re looking for a real shelter and a real comfort of a family. The first thing comes on your mind “I just want to go home”. Missing your family from home will make you sick but it inspires you to have more courage and to be strong in order to be alive again!

Counting days and nights. Weeks and months. Missing your family miles away from home #DareToBeThere soon (home sweetie home).

This storm will pass anyway. Instead of stressing life, continue to pursue your dreams and implement your ambitions creating the by-product hope. Without hope, you are more often sick thinking a lot of nonsense, building nothing at all and enjoy life less. Attitude and behavior you show all day will tend to influence those around you. Be positive and don’t lose vitality. Make yourself busy, don’t bury your dreams and talents.

Re-fueling your soul will lead to great results. Despite of all the negative things happening around us continue to make a difference. Try to attempt to do anything risky and don’t be afraid to fail.

According to Mark Twain, people fear things which never happen. A direct correlation with low esteem and fear. People with high self-esteem are more confident in faith ventures and are willing to risk failure to pursue fulfillment.

Looking back in moving to the province. Never in my mind saying “I should never have moved out here” (Negros Oriental).I always embrace new experiences and creating new moments/memories to remember. But, sometimes feeling homesick because things in my place (Baguio City) was so different here.

Back where I used to live and lifestyle. Life in the province to where I live now is harder when it comes to money but when it comes to food, you can plant for your living. I remember being able to eat dinner with my family, the laugh of my niece/nephews while playing with them, watch tv/movies together, out for lunch together and walk in the park (Burnham Park) or around session road (city center road in Baguio City). Window shopping with my mom at the mall and eat out. In my current location, there’s so much going on all the time at the farm.Ridiculous routine. Life in the province is plainly simple not unlike in highly urbanized city. Things are so new and different here.

Memories can be wonderful but don’t focus too much on them. Used your wonderful experiences to move on and grow even better for the present and future life. Try to drive your lives forward with present opportunities and trusting God to take you to a greener grass (hoping to be in a right track). To find inner contentment, have external improvements, self-satisfaction, applause of accomplishments and feeling the warmth of affirmation.

Bayawan Negros Oriental Philippines

Negros Oriental is a province in the Philippines located in the Central Visayas region. Its capital is the City of Dumaguete. It occupies the southeastern half of the large islands of Negros and borders Negros Occidental.

Just moved in Tayawan – Bayawan, Negros Oriental, due to crisis (COVID19 Virus) my fortune takes me in this place and I didn’t expect that this will be my second home.

Barangay Tayawan

I’ve always wanted to stay in the province because its calmer/peaceful, more relaxing and away from the busy/noisy city (maybe to have my retirement here someday). Living in the province was always been my dream, to have my own family and spent the rest of my life (crossed fingers).

Negros Oriental was never been my dream place but now I am here. This is not final but we’ll see, time can tell haha!

I haven’t had the chance to explore the entire place yet because of this new normal, but I can say now that this place is awesome and starting to love it here.

In my location (Tayawan, Bayawan), it is 62 miles away from Dumaguete City(Capital of Negros Oriental)-“City of Gentle People” (#DARETOBETHERE soon).

Bayawan City, it is a 2nd class city in Negros Oriental. It has two climate seasons, the dry season (January to May) and the wet season (June to December).

The main revenues of Tayawan, Bayawan come from land farming, livestock production, aqua-culture activities and marine fishing.

According to the Asian Institute of Management, the city was recognized as “one of The 10 Best Cities to Live In” in the Philippines (small cities category) under its Competitive Cities Survey 2007.

Walking around Bayawan Boulevard, it is a coastal highway where you can see the beautiful scenery of the city. There are a lot of sprouted establishments along the boulevard catering the needs of the guests or those who might want to have a walk or have a goodtime. But, as the COVID19 still exist and the place was still under General Modified Community Quarantine few establishments are open just like in Maricel’s Place located at the boulevard. We had our lunch with the awesome view of the sea, chitchat then ordered food.

After lunch we leisurely walk into the market and sight-seeing in the boulevard after a heavy meal.

Bayawan (Beach) Boulevard

After that we went to the city center to explore the small town of Bawayan, buy some toiletries and other stuff. Before going back to where we lived(Tayawan), we stopped over on one of the local restaurant “MOONBEEZ”. We are lucky on that day because we’re the only people (4 of us) who was there so we take the chance to have selfies and enjoy the place on our own space. They serve good food, pastries, cakes and others.

MOONBEEZ Restaurant Bayawan City

Bayawan City also have the “Tawo-Tawo Festival” which is yearly celebrated but we didn’t have the chance to witness that festival due to this COVID19 Virus. Tawo-Tawo means scarecrow. (I just seen this signage Tawo-Tawo Festival at the plaza while on our way to the boulevard).

Bayawan City, Plaza

P.S. Bayawan Negros Oriental is a beautiful place to explore, still a lot to dicover but we need to be very careful as the COVID19 still exist and strict protocols are implemented. Some local tourist spots are already open but health and safety are our priority during this time.

#FAMBAM

Hello there from Negros Oriental, Philippines. Rainy season right now and staying in the province makes me feel so bored staying inside the house. My itchy feet trying/ forcing me to go out and explore under this hard rain. But instead, just watching the rain drops on the ground and watching those animals running into their own shelter……

Chilly surroundings after the rain makes you feel the calm environment and thinking to begin new habits and set fresh goals.

Always praying that life will be beautiful again soon (back to normal and be abnormal again, I hate this new normal). Always think positive and focus on the things that helps you live your best life, enjoyable life, more hopes/dreams and bring out your hidden power to live the life you wanted.

Creating simple thoughts of your past and remembering the good and memorable memories with your family will make you feel happier and healthier.

Reminiscing shared memories and experiences with your family (my greatest love of all), miles away with love will bind us together.

The love of a family is life’s greatest blessing so we must give more importance/effort. Best memories are made with love. Give time and show them that we truly loved them no matter what (long distance relationship with my fam huhuhu).Making connections with them(family) will link your never ending love.

Family will always give the best love, encouragement and support in order to help us make life more meaningful and gives us the eagerness to continue the amazing journey on the road of life…..

Just remembering our family trip to the lowlands just before the C19 Virus (it was unforgettable and desperately missing those days). My family was blessed to be able to explore San Fernando and Bauang La Union and other places before the pandemic hits the Philippines.

#DareToBeThere at Editha’s Residencia. It is a small private beach garden resort where you can enjoy, chill and relax with your family and friends with privacy. It is a small but cozy garden beach resort owned by a family where you can enjoy the homey atmosphere. This resort has Bungalow Cottages, Gazebo and small Kubo Cabanas where you can enjoy that tropical experiences!

Chill and relax with this cozy homey atmosphere.
With my mother (who hates the camera), my niece and my older sister.
With my gorgeous niece.
Precious moments.

If you are looking for other beach resorts and want to do a beach resort hopping, there’s a lot just around the corner. Just like the Long Beach Resort, Bali Hai, TripleAAA Mountain Resort, Flores Beach Resort and many more.

#DareToBeThere at Halo-Halo De Iloko located at Zandueta St. San Fernando La Union. A restaurant that reminds you of what family is all about. It is an ancestral home turned into restaurant serving traditional Filipino cuisine. It is indeed a must visit, it’s not only the Halo Halo but the traditional food they serve and the ambiance itself. Enjoy the food and feel at home because it is surrounded by antique furniture, different decors and its charming rustic interior. When we visited this restaurant we didn’t mind the long lines, we patiently waited to experience the dose of Ilocano culture through their food.

Yehey! Happy moments with my mom.
Fried Halo Halo
We didn’t mind the long lines.

Before going back to Baguio City, #DareToBeThere at The Grape Farm.It is a must try grape picking straight from the vines. We enjoyed picking grapes even the kids (niece and nephew) was so happy. We also experience wine testing. Different kinds of wine like bugnay wine and of course the grape wine. In this farm they are also offering different kinds of local products like peanut butter, jams, and other items. We had our Grape picking experience at Orpilla-Obando Grape Farm.

There are five other grape farms in Bauang:Lomboy Grape Farm, Calica Grape Farm, Gapuz Grape Farm, Manguerra Grape Farm and Orpilla-Estigoy Grape Farm. All farms offer pick and pay for their grapes and the best time to visit the site is during summer(harvest season).

Orpilla-Obando Grape Farm with my sister & family.

We had so much fun during the trip…. Memorable. Wonderful!

P.S. As Covid19 Virus hits the entire Philippines please support local products and local destinations to help small businesses and tourism here in the Philippines.

#BaguioCity

Yay! My beautiful hometown. When will I see you again?

The summer Capital of the Philippines, also known as the “City of Pines”. It is the summer capital because of its cooler weather comparing to other regions of the Philippines.

Baguio became part of UNESCO’s Creative City in October 31, 2017.The first city in the Philippines to join in the list.

Baguio is the TripAdvisor Travelers Choice Destination Awards (Asia Category) in 2011 The city is included being among the top 25 destinations in Asia.

Burnham Park, Mines View Park, Teachers Camp, The Mansion and Baguio Cathedral are among the top tourist sites in Baguio.

Baguio City is highly urbanized city located in Benguet.

The city is in the mountainous area of Northern Luzon, Philippines. The area is located approximately 4,810 feet (1,470 meters) above sea level, cited as 1,540 meters (5,050feet) in the Luzon tropical pine forests ecoregion, which also makes it conducive for the growth of mossy plants, orchids and pine trees.Wikipedia.

It was established as a hill station by the United Sates in 1900 at the site of an Ibaloi village known as Kafagway. It was the United States only hill station in Asia.

The city is a major center of business, commerce, and education in northern Luzon, as well as the location of the Cordillera Administrative Region.

Due to its cool climate and history, Tourism is one of Baguio’s main industries. It is one of the country’s top tourist destinations.

The people from the lowlands prefer to have their vacations or holidays in Baguio City to experience cold temperatures they rarely have in their home provinces. Most people spend Holy week, breaks and holidays with their families and relatives.

One of Baguio’s highlight is the Panagbenga Festival (means The Flowers in Bloom) which is celebrated every month of February. During this festival people from other regions visit Baguio and flocks in the city, it doubles the number of people during those months.

Note: Due to Covid19 virus the Panagbenga festival 2020 has been suspended because of the strict protocols of safety measures in the city. Baguio is one of the model city in fighting this covid19 virus. According to the news, Baguio is eyeing to open for tourist this coming September 2020.For more information http://www.gobaguio.com/

Life In The Province

I have encounter some people saying that they don’t want to go back to their provinces where they grew up because life is hard. Most of these individual came from poor family in the province who move from the city and find good luck in big cities. But, as COVID19 occur, people from Manila and other cities desperately wants to go back home(province) because of crisis. No jobs. Businesses have been closed. No other source of income and some are kicked out from their boarding houses and apartments because they can’t pay their rent anymore. Now they realized that they need to go back to their provinces.

Living in the city makes us realized that life in the province is much better especially now that we are facing crisis not only in the Philippines but all over the world….

Province of Negros Oriental

Living in the province is one of the best place we can go to avoid traffic, pollution, and the stress that take too much in the busy city. Waking up early with fresh air and welcoming the sunlight on your door, windows or on your bedroom will give us a good mood to start your day.

Enjoying a walk with my  huge “Kalong Baliw” in bisaya. Known as Buri Hat  or Salakot in Tagalog.

Rural living is one of the best for holiday breaks, for good or retirement.

Living in rural areas can be a great idea to relieve stress from the hectic schedule in the city. You get to have fun and explore the great outdoors and enjoy it with family, friends, relatives and neighbors.

Sugar Cane Plantation

It is also affordable to live and secure lands in the province – labors and materials cost are cheaper too….

I was born in the province of Benguet which is located in Northern part of Luzon, but moved in Baguio which is the capital city of Benguet – one of the most tourist visited places in the Philippines ……As of now I am in Central Visayas which is a bit warmer and miles away from my hometown and family.

Due to COVID19 virus we decided to move away from the city of Cebu (5 years in business operation, sadly shutdown due to C19) and we will try our luck in Negros Oriental province (my partner’s hometown) .

Negros Oriental is a province in the Philippines located in the Central Visayas region. Its capital is the City of Dumaguete. It occupies the southeastern half of the large islands of Negros and borders Negros Occidental.

Advantages living in the Province

  • Price of commodities is fresh produce. Fruits and vegetables are freshly picked on backyards and sometimes given by neighbors.
  • You can also put up poultry and domestic livestock as other source of income.
Feeding chickens
Botoy with the goats
Mother Carabao
Baby Carabao
  • Friendly folks. Neighbors greet you even you don’t know each other. A simple smile is a way of greetings every time you meet them on the way or pass in front of your house.
  • Access to nature. Physical and mental benefits spending more time outdoors. It promotes physical agility, alertness and it improve us to be more resilient and optimism….

(Nowadays, most people especially kids are more fun of using gadgets like computers, cellphones and television all the time. We cannot deny the fact that we are in a modern world and mostly “millennials” are easily entertained in this digital era).

  • Lower costs. Most people living in the provinces have lower costs of living because foods and other basic necessities are cheaper.
  • Not too much pollution. Provinces have cleaner air especially if you are living few meters away from the city center.
  • More space. If you want to grow vegetables, bearing fruit trees or maybe if you are a fun of landscape gardening then the province is for you. (You do anything you want on the abundant space you have).
Banana
Jackfruit also known as Jack tree.
  • Relaxed Environment. More landscape and relaxed atmosphere and surroundings in the province. You will learn to appreciate small and simple things like backyard gardening, hiking in the farm, or sight-seeing natural landscape scenery around you.
With our dog botoy.
  • If you want to escape a hectic lifestyle, noisy and endless crowds, you want peace and calm environment, then you have to move in the province.
  • Close to Nature. As soon as you step out your door, you’re already surrounded with natural greens of the outdoor. The great outdoors can reduce stress levels, restore mental fatigue and can improve self-esteem.
  • Healthier lifestyle. Activities in the province can contribute better physical and mental health.
  • Activities. In the provinces, it will cost a lot less because if you want to explore especially if you have kids then you just take a walk, have a fun activities outdoor. Most kids in the provinces are very creative in making fun activities without any expenses.
Cornfields
  • More Security/Safety. Lower violence issues.
  • Save money. You can save more money in the province because of no distractions such as limited amenities, dining and shops. Foods are freshly picked on backyards and if you are creative enough in living in the province then for sure you will mostly save more money.

Disadvantages Living in the Province

  • Limited stocks and commodities. Services and conveniences. Dining and shopping options are fewer.
  • Salary. Provinces have lower basic salary due to provincial rate. (Hoping that provincial rate in the Philippines will be pushed through the senate to avoid congestion in big cities).
  • Fewer job opportunities. It may be hard to make a living in the province especially if you have limited job experiences/knowledge. Mostly big companies are investing in big cities. Most of the career holders move to big cities to look for some better opportunities especially those wanting to work in corporate world.
  • Limited Access. Fewer transport facilities. Internet connections are slow.
  • Fewer Education Opportunities. In the city more modern facilities/technologies for educational purposes (modern technologies makes learnings easier and faster) and lots of educational opportunities such as trainings, seminars, workshops, and more exposures. Communicating, meeting and socializing.
  • Dangers on wildlife and bugs. Current experiences, there’s a lot of wild animals around the corner. Haha! Such as birds on our roof with the nest, hawks, big lizards/spiders inside the house and different kinds of insects.
“Tiki”  in bisaya. Tuko in tagalog.
Big Spider on guitar case

Moving to a new place is a great challenge. So before moving to a place you have to decide first what you really want, but in our case we desperately needed to move in the province due to COVID19 (businesses has been shut down, no jobs and no other resources in the city so we decided to move out with no plans at all). We are not even sure what we really want to do.

I swear, living in the province is awesome! It’s calm, relaxed and peaceful. I don’t even feel that C19 virus exist.

I really love it especially the food we eat every day. Enjoying organic foods, fresh seafood’s and the place itself ( feeling grateful everyday).

Fresh seafood’s from local fishermen.
